Pygmy or Zande broadsword

length: 22 3/4"
blade: 19 7/8"
blade width: 2 1/2"
grip and pommel: 2 3/4"
weight: 15.6 oz

Wide bladed sword from the Bambuti Pygmys or from the nearby Zande (sometimes called Azande) peoples of central Africa. Interesting off-set cross-section (diamond shaped) blade, about 5/32" thick. "Fanged mouth" piercings to the blade, which shows striation of forged lamination construction. Late 19th or early 20th century. Missing small piece of the end of the grip.
