14ga steel t-face barbute. 15th century Italian in design but with classical roots, these helmets were popular throughout Europe as an alternative to the more restrictive sallet. Fitting closely to the head and neck, the extended sides dispensed with the need for a separate bevor or gorget. This style barbute also protected the forehead, cheeks, and jaw.
