Maille coif with horizontal ventail

Inexpensive 12th century Crusader style butted maille (chain mail) coif with leather-laced ventail to protect the mouth and chin. Butted maille has limited historical precedent but is fine for historical costuming and reenactment where strict construction authenticity is not a requirement. This is the most economical construction style of maille, as the cost of labor-intensive riveting is avoided. It is not recommended for weapons-contact reenactment, but makes for great costume, faire, theater, or film wear.
