Colonial 1899 helmet

size: original label 6 7/8

This pith helmet is either of British, Australian, or South African manufacture. Other than the general style of these helmets I'm not familiar with the specific differences, please drop me a line if you know. Exterior is unpainted kakhi-colored canvas, interior lining is green canvas and kakhi canvas with a leather sweat band supported by round pieces of cork. Metal chinstrap hooks are firmly secured, chinstrap is missing. There are no crest or cockade mounting holes. No markings or labels other than a small round size label on the leather sweatband, and another small round label inside the crown that reads "Patented May 2, 1899". Aside from age-staining to the kakhi and some places where the internal construction material feels crispy, this helmet is in very good condition for it's age, does not look to have ever been used or regularly worn.
